Bookshelf Beauty – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Illustrated Edition)

I love Harry Potter. I grew up reading the series and waited impatiently with millions of other fans for each new book to be released. I was already an avid reader, but Harry’s world captivated me and I wished so hard for a letter to arrive inviting me to Hogwarts. (There’s obviously been some sort of terrible admin error, but I’ve still got my fingers crossed for next year!)

When the illustrated books were announced I’d not heard of the extremely talented Jim Kay before. I read with interest about his awards and his down to earth nature in various newspaper articles and interviews about the new books. I wondered how he would fair in transforming the books into a visually pleasing medium. It seemed almost an impossible task to please everyone, since the characters are already so well-known and loved.

I think Kay has done a wonderful job of bringing Rowling’s world to life in a fresh and interesting way. I absolutely love the illustrated version of The Philosopher’s Stone and can’t wait for The Chamber of Secrets to be released next month.

The characters have a realness to them and the settings are wonderfully magical. One of my favourite illustrations is of the Forbidden Forest.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the other books in the series and I think that these books will be a wonderful addition to any book lovers’ bookshelves.

Wishing you all Magical Sandy Toes!
